Belgian public decisions, out in the open

About

“En stoemelings” is Brussels dialect for “on the quiet”. En stoems does the opposite: it brings Belgian public decisions out into the open, with the rules, the figures, who voted for what, and the source of every piece of information.

Our method

  1. Describe, don't judge. We write down what was decided, voted or observed, by whom, and from which source. No value-laden adjectives, no attributed intentions.
  2. No unproven accusations. We do not describe anyone as having done something no authority holds against them, not even with “alleged”.
  3. Equal treatment for all, whatever the party.
  4. Each side's arguments when a measure is disputed.
  5. Always cite the source, the official one when it exists.
  6. Say what we don't know. An uncertain point is marked “to be checked” or “to be confirmed”.
  7. Presumption of innocence, stated whenever someone is named in legal proceedings.
  8. Human review: no page is published without being read and approved by a person.

Corrections

A mistake, an outdated figure, a missing source? Let us know, with the page concerned and, if possible, a source. We correct quickly, and every correction is dated on the page.

The English version is a translation of the French one; if in doubt, the French text prevails.
